Author Guidelines

Submission
SPOUDAI Journal accepts manuscripts written in English. Submission should proceed either via the on line submission system of the Journal’s web page (http://spoudai.unipi.gr) or directly to the Journal’s email address (spoudai@unipi.gr). All correspondence between the editor, author(s) and reviewer(s) takes place electronically.
Each article’s submission implies a payment of 70 euros for publication fees.
This payment should be transferred to the following account (after his acceptance for publication):

After the payment of publication fees, an email to spoudai@unipi.gr should be send with the copy of the Bank slip.

Submission declaration
Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out.

Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and electronic format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Title page information
Authors should provide:
•The title of the paper.
•Author names and affiliations. Indicate clearly the first and family name. Also present the authors’ affiliations (where the work was done), the full address of all affiliations (postal address, city, zip code, country) along with emails.
•Corresponding author. Indicate who will handle correspondence at all stages of refereeing and publication and provide contact details (phone number along with email).
•Abstract (max 200 words). The abstract should not contain any undefined abbreviations or unspecified references. Provide the rationale of the article, methodology used and results.
•Keywords. Provide up to 6 keywords which can be used for indexing purposes.
•JEL Classification. Provide a maximum of 3 JEL codes.

Text Formatting
Manuscripts should be submitted in A4 size using single column format. Use a 12 point Times Roman font for text, footnotes, tables and figures. Do not use indents and spaces between paragraphs. Use single line spacing. Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages. Do not use field functions. Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables. Use the equation editor or MathType for equations.
Save your file in docx format (Word 2007 or higher) or doc format (older Word versions).

Sections
Divide your article into clearly defined and numbered sections. Subsections should be numbered 1.1 (and then 1.1.1 …) 1.2, etc. Use this numbering also for internal cross-referencing.

Abbreviations
Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter.

Footnotes
Footnotes can be used to give additional information, which may include the citation of a reference included in the reference list. They should not consist solely of a reference citation, and they should never include the bibliographic details of a reference. They should also not contain any figures or tables. Footnotes to the text should be numbered consecutively. Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.

Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. should be placed in a separate section before the reference list. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

Tables and Figures
All tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in accordance with their appearance in the text. For each table or figure, please provide a caption (title) above it and not in it explaining its components. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data) and included beneath the table body.

Math formulae
Equations should be left aligned and numbered. It is necessary to use ‘equation editor’ or ‘MathType’ for the necessary equations.

References
The Harvard system of references is used. For citation in text, please ensure that every reference cited in the text is also present in the reference list (and vice versa).
The basic order of information and format for in text citation is:
•Paraphrase references: author’s surname (without initials, unless there is ambiguity), year of publication (e.g. Barro, 2008).
•Quotations: author’s surname (without initials, unless there is ambiguity), year of publication: page number (e.g. Barro, 2008:135).
•Two authors: indicate both authors' surnames and the year of publication (Allan and Jones, 1995).
•Several authors: indicate the first author's surname followed by "et al." (e.g. Coyle et al., 2000).
•More than one publication by the same author in the same year: they must be alphabetically separated (e.g. Stevens 2008 a, b).

References should be arranged first alphabetically and then further sorted chronologically if necessary. The basic order of information and format for the list of references:
•Books: author’s surname, initials, year. Title. Edition. Publisher, Place of Publication (e.g. Robbins, S.P, Bergmann, R., Stagg, I and Coulter, M., 2011. Management. Prentice Hall, Sydney)
•Journals: author’s surname, initials, year. Article Title. Journal Title, Volume, Issue, pages (e.g. Folger, R and Starbuck, D., 2002. Constraints of Change. Journal of Management. 12(1), 34-45.)
•Edited book: author’s surname, initials, year. Title. IN editor surname, initial. Title, Edition. Publisher, Place of Publication, pages (e.g. Watts, M., 2006. Team term papers and presentations, IN Becker W.E., Watts, M. and Becker, S.R. (eds), Teaching Economics: More Alternatives to Chalk and Talk, Edward Elgar, Cheltenham, UK, pp. 151–170).
•Proceedings: author’s surname, initials, year. Title. Proceedings, Time and Place. (e.g. Quinet, E., 2007. Effect of Market Structure on Optimal Pricing and Cost Recovery. Second International Conference on Funding Transportation Infrastructure, Leuven, 20 - 21 September 2007.
•Electronic Source: Please provide the URL and date of access (e.g. Weaver, R.K., 2000. Ending welfare as we know it. Brookings Institution Press. Available at ‹http://books.google.com/books?id=0S8Rezane-QC&printsec=frontcover&sig=zFBmcWxnvqyl9lsGPS1IUsKbrTA&source=gbs_hpintrst#PPP1,M1› [accessed: 22 May 2008].

After Acceptance
After the acceptance of the article, a PDF file will be sent to the corresponding author for proofing. Authors will provide their corrections using the PDF annotation function (available for Adobe Reader version 7 and higher). The proofreading stage is intended to catch any errors in the typesetting, editing, completeness and correctness of the text, tables and figures. Significant changes to the article at this stage will only be considered with permission from the Editor.

e-Article in Press
With this feature a PDF version of manuscripts that have been peer reviewed and accepted for publication, will be hosted online until their inclusion in the final printed issue of the journal. Readers can freely access or cite the articles.

Offprints
Authors will be provided with a hard copy of the Journal.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
    More specifically, the submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
    Manuscript has been 'spell-checked' and 'grammar-checked'.
    References are in the correct format for this journal. All references mentioned in the Reference list are cited in the text, and vice versa.

    The instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  3. Permission has been obtained for use of copyrighted material from other sources (including the Web)
