The apportionment problem and its application in determining political represantation

Abstract

In this paper we give an overall view of the apportionment problem and its applications and, in
particular, we discuss the determination of political representation. We comment on the methods currently
being used in Greece and in the United States of America for allocating representatives to their
geographical regions and we offer alternatives which may be considered for future apportionment.
