Abstract

In this paper a comparison of multinational and Greek firms in Greece is made based on a critical
analysis of their importing and exporting performance during the period 1985-87. The amassing and
evaluation of data is centered on original research on 122 Greek industrial companies. The research
showed that in the area of foreign commercial trade the behaviour of both groups is directly influenced by
the comparative advantages of the Greek economy. However, certain factors, for example, the integration
of the foreign firms in a global intra-firm division of labour may lead to a differentiation of company
behaviour with regards to its foreign commercial transactions. In the final portion of the article a
discussion follows, examining the results drawn in the face of analogous literature.
