Abstract

Over the last 50 years, a number of structures and methods have been introduced in the Agricultural
Sector in Greece. This article, entitled “An Investigation of the Determinant Factors of
Productivity in the Agricultural Sector”, aims to study the main features of the modernization
process in the Agricultural Sector. The issue investigated in this study is the determinant factors
of productivity, by using both a theoretical and an empirical approach in a Greek case study
covering the period 1950-2000. More specifically, the purpose of this research is to analyse the
framework, the obstacles and the determinants of productivity using the appropriate statistical
techniques. To achieve this, an analysis of regional production functions is employed referring to
thirteen regions and the country. The role of technical change is examined in order to promote
local development projects always within sustainable development, as well as the implications on
regional development and social change.
